- These documents are for use in conjunction with officially issued nomination materials only. In order to be qualify to be elected, prospective candidates must have official nomination papers issued by the City Clerk’s Office. The regulations applicable to City Council and Mayor candidates are found in a variety of statutes and codes. A portion of the applicable regulations have been summarized for ease of use in the candidate nomination materials, but the information provided by staff is not legal advice and is by no means exhaustive.
Candidates are encouraged to review the full text of the regulations in question when making decisions about candidacy and political reform obligations. Links to some of the applicable regulations are provided below. Specific statutory citations for many topics are provided in the Candidate Guidelines book.
Candidates may also need to seek information about regulations not covered here, such as applicable tax laws.
