Our Mission

Our mission is to promote a safe and enjoyable beach experience for everyone. We strive to provide a proactive approach to beach safety through vigilant monitoring, emergency response, and educational programs. Our lifeguards are not just protectors; they are also educators who work to inform the public about beach safety and environmental stewardship.

Lifeguard Services

  • Beach Surveillance: Our lifeguards are on duty every day between Memorial Day and Labor Day, actively monitoring beach activities to ensure safety.
  • Rescue Operations: Equipped and trained for quick response, our lifeguards handle emergency situations effectively and efficiently.
  • First Aid & CPR: We offer immediate first aid assistance and CPR responses for any emergencies that may arise on the beach.
  • Safety Education: We provide educational programs and materials focused on water safety, rip current awareness, and proper beach etiquette.
  • Community Programs: We engage with local schools and organizations to promote water safety through workshops and demonstrations. Our Junior Lifeguard Program is an excellent way to allow kids from ages 9-17 to gain better understanding of ocean dynamics, become comfortable in the ocean, and even learn basic lifeguarding skills.

Safety Tips for Beachgoers

To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience at Pismo Beach, we encourage everyone to follow these essential safety tips:

  • Swim Near Lifeguards: Always swim in designated areas and close to lifeguard towers.
  • Know the Ocean Conditions: Be aware of tides, swells, and potential hazards. Check our beach flag system for real-time updates.
  • Identify Rip Currents: Learn how to recognize and avoid rip currents. If caught in one, swim parallel to the shore until you’re out of the current, then swim back.
  • Supervise Children: Always keep a close eye on children while they are in or near the water.
  • Wear Sunscreen: Protect your skin from sunburn by applying sunscreen regularly, even on cloudy days.
