Candidate Filing Deadline - 2018 General Election - Mayor and City Council

Offices to be Elected

The City of Pismo Beach will hold an election for the following offices as part of the November 6, 2018 General Election:

  • City Council Member (4-year term ending Nov. 2022)
  • City Council Member (4-year term ending Nov. 2022)
  • Mayor (2-year term ending Nov. 2020)

Important dates:

  • Nomination period opened: July 16, 2018, 8:00 a.m.
  • Nomination period closes (deadline to file papers): August 10, 2018, 5:00 p.m. (will not be extended, because all incumbents have filed)
  • Deadline to register to vote: October 22, 2018
  • Election Day: November 6, 2018

Information for Potential Candidates

Residents interested in running for office are encouraged to contact the City Clerk's Office early for information about required paperwork and filing deadlines. Candidates must be registered to vote in the city of Pismo Beach.

Individuals who intend to run for office must file certain Fair Political Practices Commission (FPPC) forms with the City Clerk's Office beforesoliciting campaign contributions or making campaign expenditures. In order for a candidate's name to appear on the November ballot, the candidate must obtain a candidate materials binder from the City Clerk's Office on or after July 16, 2018 and submit all required nomination paperwork, including a petition signed by other city voters, to the City Clerk's Office no later than August 10, 2018 at 5:00 p.m. Other filing requirements include FPPC forms disclosing certain economic interests, and information about campaign contributions and expenditures.


Voter Eligibility and Registration

In order to vote in a Pismo Beach election, an individual must be registered to vote at an address in Pismo Beach. For eligibility to vote in the November 6, 2018 general election, voter registrations must be postmarked or submitted electronically no later than October 22, 2018.

  • Verify your voter registration status: Visit https://voterstatus.sos.ca.gov or call San Luis Obispo County Elections at (805) 781-5228.
  • Register or update your voter registration: Visit http://registertovote.ca.gov. Paper voter registration forms are available at San Luis Obispo County elections office, local libraries, Department of Motor Vehicles offices, and US Post Offices.
